Home contents insurance (Hausratversicherung) replaces furniture, clothing and electronics damaged or stolen as a result of fire, escaping tap water, storms, hail or burglary. It usually pays the replacement value.

What matters

  • Sum insuredThe sum insured must match the value of your home contents, otherwise you risk being underinsured.
  • Bicycle theftThis is often covered only through an add-on.
  • Natural hazard damage (Elementarschäden)Flooding and heavy rain are included only with additional cover.
  • GlassCover for damage to windows and glass surfaces can be added.
